The colours are changing every minute. The gardeners of Egeskov are skilful and hardworking, and the magnificent international rewards are well deserved. Join in and hear the stories about the parks and the gardens.<\/strong><\/p><p>The parks and the gardens are subdivided into various areas, you can reach everything on very well maintained gravel paths, and on the way you will see examples of the works of some renowned Danish sculptors.<\/p><p>The history of the gardens starts in 1722, due to inspiration from the royal baroque gardens of Fredensborg and Frederiksborg, and generations of owners have cherished, renewed and extended the gardens at Egeskov. Every year there will be new items, and the various owners have all contributed to the scenary.<\/p><p>The parks of Egeskov have won several important prizes, amongst others &quot;Best European historic garden 2012&quot;. The gardens of Egeskov are counted amongst the 12 most spectacular gardens in the world and each garden area is surrounded by impressive hedges, some og which are more than 400 years old. Of course there is a vegatable garden and&nbsp; of course it is 100% organic. You&#39;ll also have the opportunity to greet the peacocks of the castle, which roam the grounds.<\/p><p>On the guided tour you will enter the Dahlia Garden, the Fuchsia garden, the water garden, the garden of life, the renaissance garden with the styled bushes, the white garden and the scent garden with scents ranging from chocolate to lovesick tomcat and you are allowed to touch the plants.<\/p><p>You are welcome to visit the big conservatories where you can buy plants to take home.<\/p><p>You can round off your visit with a guided tour of the <strong>Castle<\/strong> or of the many fascinating <strong>exhibitions and museums<\/strong>. A beautiful water castle that rises proudly above the moat. Had it once a drawbridge? Nowadays Egeskov Castle is a very peaceful place with room for visits from guests from all over the world. But Egeskov luckily survived. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Egeskov Castle and the Brockenhuus family<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Egeskov Castle was built by the Brockenhuus family, who bought the property and built the castle after the rebellion had been put down and Christian the 3rd had become Denmark's new, Protestant king. The castle was built in the form we know it today. The Danish nobility had quite a fright during the Grevens Fejde, the Count's Feud and had learned from it. Therefore, Egeskov Castle is a strongly defended castle, which only a long siege or heavy artillery could capture. A peasants army would not be able to. The family felt safe and the values were protected as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Brockenhuus family only lived at Egeskov Castle for 2 generations. The last Brockenhuus at Egeskov Castle was called Laurits and he had daughters only. One of them was called Rigborg. She had a very unfortunate fate as the \"walled maiden\" and today one of the rooms at Egeskov is known for being maiden Rigborg's room. This room you must experience and this is the right place to listen to the story of the poor maiden Rigborg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are so many good stories about Egeskov Castle. Egeskov Castle has an impressive collection of vintage cars including cars, buses, racing cars as well as motorcycles. A true eldorado for car lovers. The wonderful detail is that both vintage cars and motorcycles are still in use from time to time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is also an ambulance and fire fighters museum and the latest exhibit added is about outdoor and camping. The exhibitions at Egeskov are definitely not like in an ordinary museum, you have to experience them by yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ahlefeld-Laurvig-Bille family are counts and the current count Michael lives in the house today. The house is a private home, making you a visitor in the private living rooms. The living rooms are used by the count and his wife when the day visitors are gone and in the winter season the house is closed to visitors.
