Hear why such a large cathedral was built in the middle ages&nbsp;in a small town of only around 1500 inhabitants. <\/strong><\/p><p>Aarhus Cathedral is the biggest church in Denmark and also the one with the most frescoes that each and every one tells an interesting story. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><p>Brick was a new material at that time and the 11 million bricks used in building the cathedral in Aarhus&nbsp;were handmade and produced just around the corner.<\/p><p>The Cathedral holds many interesting tales about people, memorial plaques, frescoes and other features. I shall also tell you about the guard in the cathedral tower, who keept watch in case of fire in the small&nbsp;town. Further more the church was a favorite place for burials, and approximately 2,000 souls are buried here.<\/p><p>There is a rather interesting story about the Bishop Jens Iversen Lange, who made sure you will remember him, by putting his personal seal on everything inside the church, including the church tower itself. I&#39;ll show you.<\/p><p>Hear about the baptisms in the early days of the church, how the priest sometimes had to brake down the ice to immerse the babies or why a model of a war ship intended for the Russian Zar ended up in a church in Aarhus.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><p>We guide when there are no church services and only during the church&#39;s opening hours &#8211; usually at 9:30-16. <p><strong>Odense Cathedral is called St. Canute&#39;s Church, and has <strong>two main attractions. I<\/strong>t houses the body of the victim of a regicide in 1086, and it has an absolutely marvelous altarpiece.<\/strong><\/p><p>Odense Cathedral is named after the Viking king Canute IV Svendsen, who in 1086 had sought refuge in St. Alban&#39;s church, near to the present cathedral, but was&nbsp;assassinated anyhow. It is an exciting story and tale of the rebellion against the king, the king&#39;s flight through Jutland with a small band of men, his murder, and the solemn transfer of his body to the present cathedral in 1095.<\/p><p>In the crypt I will show you St. Canutes shrine and his famous Byzantine silk blanket with motifs of eagles.&nbsp;The crypt is also the final resting place for the later Danish King Hans (1487-1513) and his spouse Queen Christine.<\/p><p>It was Queen Christine who ordered the church&#39;s amazing, golden altarpiece from the best and most skilled carver in Northern Europe at the time, Claus Berg from L&uuml;beck. It shows hundreds of wooden figures, all individually designed and carved by hand. If just you hear the stories of what you experience at the museum, you will make sure it is a good experience. But you can see many of the other castles. Our royal castles are hundreds of years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Copenhagen, you can visit Rosenborg Castle, where the crown jewels are on display. Rosenborg Castle, built by King Christian IV, is a beautiful building with great interior. However, it has been many, many years since the castle has been used as a royal residence. The last time was when the English attacked Copenhagen in 1801. Today, Rosenborg Castle is one of the castles in the Royal Danish Collection. It is said that the credit rating is high. This means that the soil on Funen is particularly fertile and suitable for growing crops. Back in the days, this meant that each manor house on Funen could manage with fewer hectares than manor houses elsewhere in Denmark.
