Guide in Ribe and Jutland's West Coast, Niels

I was born and raised in the Ribe area, and I have known the special cosy atmosphere in Ribe since childhood - it must be felt.

As a former folk high school teacher, I am very anecdotal in my stories and focus more on making points that promote understanding told in "images" than on small details that are simply forgotten on the way home, and I love a bit of ping-pong when I tell stories.

My mother tongue is the West Jutland dialect, and the North Sea and heather have been part of my DNA for generations, ever since my grandfather cultivated heathland in the Varde area.

I have been coming to West Jutland since childhood and have always thought that the contrast between the lush sea and the thin sandy soil made life particularly difficult for humans. There are seven museums in the area that I know well, I know the sea, the heath and the beach, and I know all the towns.

I am also familiar with the area's exciting military history, from the construction of the Atlantic Wall during the occupation, to the evacuation of Kallesmærsk Hede in the 1960s for NATO use, to the current training of Ukrainian soldiers. And on top of that, I can tell you about the 35,000 German refugees who were in the area in the first years after liberation.
