The Best of Frederiksberg
On this two-hour walk I will tell you the history and the tales and also take you inside the beautiful Frederiksberg Gardens, former "playground" for the kings Frederik IV and Frederik VI.
The soil at Frederiksberg was not very fertile. King Christian IV destroyed the old village Solbjerg and instead he established fields to grow crops for use in the royal court. This was not a success. The Dutch were brought in as they were the experts in growing vegetables, but they had no luck either.
To turn Frederiksberg into an area of entertainment was the key to success. Of course this did not happen overnight and was not even the plan. But thanks to the royal presence it actually happened.
