Kolding - The medieval town, Koldinghus Castle and the present
Koldinghus Castle and Kolding are two closely related sizes.
In terms of power, around the year 1550, the Koldinghus castle was of the same importance as Copenhagen. After the introduction of Enevælden - absolute power to the king, the castle slowly lost its importance, and it was symbolic of the castle's fate when Spaniards in Napoleon's army burned the castle down in 1808. Koldinghus County was closed in 1794 and after that Kolding had to reinvent itself as a market town.
