Vejle - Denmark's Manchester

Based on Vejle's history of industrialization, you will understand why the heath land to the west was cultivated within three decades and why Vejle is such an important trading centre today.

In 1868, Vejle became a railway station city on the East Jutland Railway System, the section from Fredericia to Aarhus. Later on the sections to Herning via Give and to Grindsted via Billund were established.

After these improvements of the infrastructure in the area, a large number of industrial companies were established in Vejle and on the heath land. In Vejle particularly textile industries, with Vejle Bomuldsspinderier at the head. This was the major reason why the vast areas of heath was reclaimed within three decades.
