Walk in Skamlingsbanken
A guided tour on Skamlingsbanken: hear about Denmark's national sentiments during the first half of the 19th century.
Steen Blicher started the first popular meetings of the Romantic Era on the hill Himmelbjerget in 1839. This became the inspiration for many subsequent popular meeting places around the entire country. In 1843 local farmers bought the area surrounding Southern Jutland's highest point, Skamlingsbanken, located approximately 10 km south of Kolding.
A guided tour on Skamlingsbanken will give you an in-depth picture of Denmark's national sentiments during a time when ideas about nation, language and nature were experiencing a revolution. After a Danish defeat in 1864, ceding Southern Jutland to Prussia, Skamlingsbanken became highly symbolic for the struggle to reunite the area with the rest of the realm.
The story about the events of 1864 and the separation and reincorporation of Southern Jutland certainly define this area and will be presented to you in a professional, interactive way. Narrations about these two historical events will be combined with the beautiful natural sights around, to not only give you an idea about the area but all of Denmark and its history as well.

A Hike in Syvårssøerne -The Seven Year Lakes – at Frederikshåb Plantation
Syvårssøerne, the Seven Year Lakes, at Frederikshåb Plantation is at moment one of Denmark's biggest natural attractions, as the water level in the mystical "Syvårssøerne" is very high, and numerous paths in the area are flooded. A hike here is an exciting experience.
I myself is very enthusiastic about this hike, where we walk around the big sand dunes in Randbøl moor. Here we will pass over the 17m high Stoltenberg. A sand dune shaped by the wind collecting sand on the otherwise flat and heather clad moorland. It is difficult here to believe that you are not in the big seaside dunes at the west coast by the North Sea.
The tour continues in Frederikshåb Plantation where we hike along the lakes Syvårssøerne. The "Seven Year Lakes" are not always here which is the mystical part as the lakes emerges and disappears in fluctuation with the groundwater level. For centuries it was noticed that they appeared around every seven years. The hike at Syvårssøerne is a hike you can do again and again every season of the year. No matter when you pass by, the nature is always beautiful – even in rain and clouded weather. If you bring kids along, the tour offers possibility for play time in the great sand dunes.
Besides the mystical and very beautiful nature, we will also encounter multiple historical sites from WW2 when Denmark was occupied by German forces and the German occupational forces used the area as a secret airfield. In the area there are among other things an airplane hiding spot, field kitchen, personal bunker fuel lines and a bunker for fuel.
A guided hike which is very exciting for kids as well as adults. -

Hindsgavl Peninsula – Hiking with Magnificent View of the Sea
Starting at the Old Harbor, Gammel Havn, in Middelfart, we hike at the coast of the Little Belt strait, Lillebælt, along Hindsgavl Peninsula.
I'll tell you about the Little Belt Bridge, the underwater paths, the shelter culture, and the porpoises, which has really good conditions in the Little Belt strait, Lillebælt, and which we might be lucky to experience.
We'll pass Gals Klint with steep sandy cliffs and magnificent views of the sea. We'll moreover walk in the beautiful park by Hindsgavl Castle where we'll see the little tea-house from where, it is said, Hans Christian Andersen found inspiration for his fairytales. We'll continue the tour along the water to the dock by the Fænø Sund Strait.
When we leave the coast to walk back to the Old Harbor, we'll walk through idyllic, old streets with crooked houses. A beautiful hike in Nature Park Little Belt.
At Hindsgavl Castle, it is possible to extend the tour by going on a boat trip and sail on a "whale safari" through the Little Belt back to the Old Harbor. It is simply a fantastic experience.

Guided hike in Dyrehaven
If not previously, then there is now a deer-guarantee at the plainlands next to the oldest golfclub not just in Denmark but of all of Scandinavia. If the weather is clear, we will be able to see all the way to Sweden.
We walk from Klampenborg Station to Ulvedalene, the "Valley of the Wolfs", which every 3rd year provides the settings for an outdoor theatre. From there we will walk back through the forest to Klampenborg Station. We can walk a short detour in order to pass by the amusement park Bakken.
Did you know that there was a healing spring in Dyrehaven, which gave power and strength! And at one time there have been more than 200 pubs.
Dyrehaven is a popular place for excursions, and there are always many outdoor activities going on. It is possible to hire a chariot, if you wish to experience the forest from a horse-powered wagon, however that must be booked and paid for in advance. We can assist with all that of course.
The tracks we walk are partly laid with gravel and partly forest tracks, which can be uneven.

Walk the Ramparts around Christianshavn
Walk the Ramparts of Christianshavn – part of the old fortifications of Copenhagen.
The rampart and the moats around Christianshavn are part of the extensive fortifications all around Copenhagen. Today they form a park area with many beautiful sights and access to the harbour. Seen from above it is like a green string of pearls.
We start our walk at Langebro and then follow the rampart all the way around the freetown Christiania – stop for a refreshment and peep look and then continue while enjoying the unique self constructed houses in Christiania. After a while we reach the Opera House from where we can take the harbour bus across to Nyhavn.
Walk on unneven surfaces, that can be muddy and slippery depending on the weather.

Hikes with a guide
Being out in nature on a hike in the company of a local guide means that you do not have to worry about the route. That you get to where you want to go and on a route that the guide already knows and will show you.
During the hike, the guide can tell you about the area and its history, about nature, wildlife or the plants. The stories will of course reflect the topic of the tour you are on. On some of the guided walks, it is the wildlife that is in focus, on others it is the plants that are the focal point.
On some of the hikes, there is also an opportunity to collect herbs or other edibles from nature's lovely pantry.
We are happy to say go hiking with Guide Service Denmark and one of our hiking guides
