From muddy fields to the Champions League - around Parken and Danish sports
A city walk in an area central of sports in Copenhagen. The British brought football to Denmark. Fælledparken was where it started. It was a leisure area outside the city, where people went to get away from the noise and dirt in the city centre. Fælledparken is still an important recreational area, but now it is located almost in the centre of the city.
We start our guided tour at Trianglen and the Copenhagen monument for the Reunification in 1920. From here we enter Fælledparken, where we will begin our journey. We will discover some parts of the Copenhagen movement culture. Within a very small area, we will experience both the popular Danish sports culture and the modern sports industry. We will investigate the history of the first football games back in the late 1800s and how it developed from there.
On our way, we maybe meet both running and walking Copenhageners. If we come in the late afternoon or at the weekends, we will meet both young and old football players competing and having fun.
From the popular park we move out into Øster Allé, where a big building meets us. It is the national arena of Denmark, Parken, and the home court of FC København.
On some tours there will be an opportunity to visit Boldklubben Skjold, which is Denmark's largest football club.
On the other side of Parken we will have the opportunity to learn more about Denmark's first athletics stadium, Østerbro Stadium, that just have been renovated. We will pass by Denmark's first public swimming pool, before the walk ends at Gunnar Nu Hansens Plads.
