Classicism, the Architecture of Eternity in Copenhagen

In Copenhagen's classicist buildings we see some architectural principles, which have been respected since antiquity. Always characterized by simplicity and elegance, the rationale is utility, durability and beauty.

It began almost 3,000 years ago, when the Greeks emphasized the beauty of harmonious proportions and simplicity in a way that has never been forgotten. With the work of the Roman Marc Vitruvius (75-25 BC), "De Architectura", the principles were established in writing, and in 16th-century Europe, the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) ensured with Villa Capra (la Rotunda,) i.a., that no one would forget classicism, its Golden Ratio and elegant columns.

In Denmark, it is primarily Christian F. Hansen's (1756-1845) architecture from the beginning of the 19th century that represents the ultimate classicism. However, his teacher, Caspar F. Harsdorff, was the one who introduced it in the second half of the previous century.

Come with me and see the "noble simplicity and quiet grandeur" of these buildings. See how nothing is accidental, nothing is inharmonious, everything is as Palladio might have done it. In short, see why Classicism will never leave us.
