Sorø Citywalk
I will talk about Sorø Akademi, which originally was the riches monastery in the north, owning great landmasses. The foundation of Sorø Akademi and how it has influenced the area both in past and present will be incorporated in my stories, and we will be walking along Sorø Lake – the biggest of the 3 connected lakes which surrounds the town.
My guided tour will start at Sorø Akademi, where I talk about the time when it was a monastery. After a guided tour in the astonishing garden by Sorø Akademi, where there are many special bushes and trees, we will be going for a beautiful walk along the banks of Sorø Lake. Finally, we will end up at the Church of Pedersborg, where we will be elevated and therefore have an impressive view over the 3 connecting lakes. From the Church we will also have a good view over some of the 5.000 hectars of forestry, farmlands and lakes, which is owned by the foundation of Sorø Akademi.
The guided tour can be combined with a visit in the monastery church, a boat-trip on Sorø Lake or a coffee-stop in Støvlet-Catherine’s house, where I will tell you about the lively mistress of King Christian VII.
Sorø has existed since 1142, where a monastery for the Blackfriars was built by the magnate Asser Rig. His son, Absalon, later handed it over to the White Monks, who were good estate managers. Sorø monastery's church was the north's biggest and richest monastic church in the middle ages and many kings are buried there.
In 1586 the beautiful monastery buildings were used to house the boarding school "Sorø Akademi". Today many of the students has returned to the town, where they contribute to a vigorous cultural environment.

The Castle of Hamlet: Kronborg – Danish World Heritage
The story of Kronborg in Elsinore – the Castle of Shakespeare's Hamlet, a special place in Danish history.
Northern Europe's largest Renaissance Castle stores some of the most amazing and disturbing stories.
Kronborg Castle was built to replace the old and outdated fortress Krogen, which had existed since Erik of Pomerania made Elsinore Denmark's second largest city in the 15th century. Kronborg is one of Northern Europe's most important Renaissance castles.
Kronborg holds a love story beyond all limits, as Frederik II build a whole wing for his beloved Sophie, so she could walk with dry shoes from her chamber to the church.
For centuries, the castle's location, next to the Entrance of Øresund, gave Danish kings the power to control the shipping in Øresund and to collect the much hated "Øresundstold" a special tax for sailing through Øreund.
Fire, wars and shipwrecks are also part of Kronborg's history and stories worth listening to.
Kronborg is now on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

Colonial Denmark and the Slave Trade
Learn about Denmark's colonial history and its influence on Copenhagen
Copenhagen has many buildings that are rooted in Denmark's colonial history and international trade. That is to say, Northatlantic, Eastern Asian and Caribbean trade.
The Caribbean or West Indian trade focused mainly on slaves obtained in West Africa and employed in slave labour on the Caribbean islands.
Recently more interest has been shown for Denmark's colonial history: Especially for the country's role in the slave trade. That's the reason for two new statues in Copenhagen harbour. One of them is an official gift from a former Danish colony – The Virgin Islands – by the name of ''Freedom''. The other is an art-project named ''I am Queen Mary''.
Hear about the hidden stories held inside these old Copenhagen buildings.
This city walk can be combined in many ways, for example in combination with the permanent colonial exposition at the National Museum.
We'll meet at Christianshavn square and walk down to the former East Asian square at the harbour. From here we'll follow the harbour to Greenland's market square, crossing Inderhavnsbroen (a bridge) to Nyhavn. From there we'll continue to Toldboden where ''I Queen Mary'' stands. We'll walk up to Amalienborg, where the royal family resides, and then back to Nyhavn and Kongens Nytorv, which is central in the story about the abolishment of slavery.
If you would prefer more focus on the racism involved in the slave trade, we can include Kastellet. Once an African chief was held prisoner there for enslavement, sale and murder of other Africans; a surprising account that reveals that the history surrounding the Transatlantic slave trade isn't as black-and-white as we might think.
