The Catholic minority in Copenhagen, Frederiksstaden and Østerbro

On a lovely guided tour through Østerbro and Frederiksstaden I will tell you the history of how the Catholic Church tried to return to Denmark shortly after the Reformation, and how today there is a well-established Danish Catholic minority in Copenhagen. We will look at Copenhagen minority history from prohibition period up to today's versatile Denmark.

The guided tour begins at Saint Augustins Church, Jagtvej 183D, where we meet up and continue the tour through Klosterfælleden in Fælledparken, past Holmens Cemetery to the school Institute of Saint Joseph at Dag Hammarskjölds Alle, before the tour ends at the Cathedral Saint Ansgars Church in Bredgade.

During the tour I will tell you about the only Danish Catholic gymnasium, the first Danish school of Jesuits, The French School and the religious community Saint Joseph Sisters of Chambery as well as the sisters' significance in Denmark. In addition to this I will tell you about other significant Catholic people including Peter Schindler and Chresten Skikkild.

Lastly, I will tell you about the Catholic minority's history in Denmark after the Reformation and about the post reformation Catholic congregation in the safe haven of Fredericia.
