Odin's sanctuary - the pagan stronghold
Guided tour through the city of Odense, with the story about Odense's pre-Christian history, about the cult of Odin and Thor and where in the city we have remains of this cult.
Odin has been worshiped in Odense since the Iron Age, through the Viking Age but also long after. In fact, we find traces of him all the way back to the 17th century! Odense even has Denmark's only asa belief burial ground for people who still worship Thor and Odin. Today, Odin's name also resonates in the city's self-understanding, which we can see in the naming of new roads and bridges or on something as profane as the city's sewer covers.
