Traces of World War II: A Memorial Walk through Odense

Traces of the Second World War can still be found in Odense's streets, parks and cemeteries. Street names, Stolpersteine (stumbling stones), memorials, statues and war graves tell the stories of people whose lives were shaped or cut short by the war. Join a guided walk to discover these traces and the stories behind them.

Along the way, we hear about victims of Nazi persecution, resistance members and Danish soldiers who fell during the occupation. We also visit the memorial to Allied airmen and the German war graves at Assistens Cemetery.

These individual stories are placed in a wider context, offering an insight into the German occupation of both Odense and Denmark. We also explore how the dead have been commemorated since the war.

This is a tour about the war and its human consequences, but also about the traces that remain in the city today - some prominent, others easily overlooked. There is time for questions and conversation along the way.
