Sorø Citywalk

I will talk about Sorø Akademi, which originally was the riches monastery in the north, owning great landmasses. The foundation of Sorø Akademi and how it has influenced the area both in past and present will be incorporated in my stories, and we will be walking along Sorø Lake - the biggest of the 3 connected lakes which surrounds the town.

My guided tour will start at Sorø Akademi, where I talk about the time when it was a monastery. After a guided tour in the astonishing garden by Sorø Akademi, where there are many special bushes and trees, we will be going for a beautiful walk along the banks of Sorø Lake. Finally, we will end up at the Church of Pedersborg, where we will be elevated and therefore have an impressive view over the 3 connecting lakes. From the Church we will also have a good view over some of the 5.000 hectars of forestry, farmlands and lakes, which is owned by the foundation of Sorø Akademi.

The guided tour can be combined with a visit in the monastery church, a boat-trip on Sorø Lake or a coffee-stop in Støvlet-Catherine’s house, where I will tell you about the lively mistress of King Christian VII.

Sorø has existed since 1142, where a monastery for the Blackfriars was built by the magnate Asser Rig. His son, Absalon, later handed it over to the White Monks, who were good estate managers. Sorø monastery's church was the north's biggest and richest monastic church in the middle ages and many kings are buried there.

In 1586 the beautiful monastery buildings were used to house the boarding school "Sorø Akademi". Today many of the students has returned to the town, where they contribute to a vigorous cultural environment.
