Guided Church and Cemetery Walk in Vejle
In Vejle we have 4 interesting cemeteries and a number of beautiful and interesting churches.
This walk can be a cemetery or a church walk or a combination of both depending on your wishes. A brilliant way to get to know some of our Danish cultural traditions.
At the Old Churchyard, consecrated in 1825 you find graveyards for many famous Vejle citisens who have had a big impact on Vejle's religious and cultural life as well as people who have occupied important posts or who were driven entrepreneurs.
The Three Years' War, 1848-1850, has likewise made its mark, for example the single pit for fallen soldiers during the defense of Vejle in 1864.
The Eastern Churchyard, consecrated in 1825 reveals stories about family burial grounds for Vejle's greatest entrepreneurs such as Christian Martin Hess and Marius Windfled-Hansen, who both contributed in making Vejle a prosperous industrial town.
At the Northern cemetery there is a section with war graves dating from the Second World War 1939-45. The Northern cemetery is too far away though from the rest of the cemeteries for us to walk there, so should you wish to visit that with another location you will need a bus or a car.
Vejle also has a very beautiful Methodist church and the church of Sct. Nikolai is a beautiful medieval church with a very interesting history and well worth visiting.

Historic walk in Vejle
Vejle in the south eastern Danish peninsula Jutland was founded in the Middle Ages as a port.
For many years Vejle was a very small place with only a few hundred inhabitants. Slowly Vejle developed into a town of trade being strategically well positioned by the sea and surrounded by streams on which boats could take cargo from the inner parts of Southern Jutland to the port of Vejle and from Vejle's port it could be shipped out to the rest of the world.
Vejle was occupied by Austrian and Prussian forces during both of the wars of Sleswig 1848-50 and 1864. Wars with a significance for the Danish perception of being a Dane and the shaping of Denmark in those years but most likely these two wars mean nothing to you or your country. In the later part of the 19th century and the early part of the 20th century, Vejle became a well known industrial town especially known for its iron foundry and its woollen mill, at both of which a large part of Vejle's work force was employed.
Today Vejle is famous for its modern architecture at the old port area and for being a town always at the forefront of development in any field.
Let me guide you through Vejle's history and the vibrant town Vejle is today – I love my town.

Jelling - a guided tour
A guided tour in Jelling is a trip back in time and history. Jelling is home to the Jelling Stone, which is said to be Denmark's baptismal certificate and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In fact, there are two runic stones that Harald Bluetooth raised to remember his parents King Gorm the Old and Queen Thyra. Here, Denmark is described for the first time as a unified country. Therefore, we consider the stones to be Denmark's baptismal certificate.
Right next to the runic stones is the museum Kongernes Jelling, Royal Jelling, a museum that is part of our National Museum. The museum has a very exciting and modern exhibition that tells history with interactive screens. In Jelling there is an obvious focus on Viking history. Go exploring – first on a guided tour, and then on your own in the museum.
Not far from Jelling you find Bindeballe Købmandsgård, an old grocery shop, the Bronze Age burial place of the Egtved girl, the Ravning bridge, Randbøldal which is a beautiful heath area and there are furthermore many stories of beautiful nature and the Ice Age in the Vejle river valley. You can spend a few or many hours - in either case it will be a pleasure to the eye and will entail entertaining stories.

Resilience focuses on the power of water and how Vejle can handle the threat from the river and the danger of floodings. Resilience connects Vejle with cities such as Rome and Los Angeles.
