Ellen Marsvin was the mother of Kirsten Munk who officially was king Christian IV's mistress. On a trip to Ellen Marsvin's estate in Nørlund, we will visit Nørlund Castle, where I will reveal whether we have really had robbers around here.

I will explain how the estate and the area around Nørlund have developed through time until now. To get the best experiens and understanding of Nørlund estate we make a visit to Nørlund sawmill as well. Here we will look at the significance of the sawmill and the estate and the impact on the development of the area.

I will spice up the visit with stories about the locals and about the community that has lived on the estate as well as its employees. Including the significance the big world has had on the Nørlund estate.

The trip is told based on my own experiences as I was born in this area.

The trip starts at McDonalds near Haverslev. We go to Nørlund Castle, Nørlund sawmill and to Ladelund before heading back to McDonalds in Haverslev.

The island of Thurø by coach starting in Svendborg or another location that suits your group.

Hear about how a former lord granted the island of Thurø to local farmers. During this tour on Thurø I'll tell you about Ellen Marsvin who built a church on the island, Gambøt and Thurøbund, where wooden sailing ships used to spend the winter months, as well as Blåby and much more.

Coach tour to the Southwest of Zealand where the Hvide genus originates from. We will visit Sorø Kloster church, Bjernede church, Fjenneslev church, Skt. Bendt's church in Ringsted and Haraldsted church

The Hvide family plays a very important role in Denmark's history, churches and monasteries. The most important source for knowledge about the Hvide is Saxo's the Chronicle of Denmark.

I will tell you about Skjalm Hvide, Marsk Stig and Asser Og. Valdemar becomes king, Esbern Snare a powerful great man and Absalon archbishop. Together, the three were a very powerful group. 

Sorø Kloster church is the Hvide family's burrial church. Bishop Absalon is buried in the church.

Bjernede Church is the only round church on Zealand. Bjernede Church was built by Sune Ebbesen, whose father was the uncle of Bishop Absalon.

We start in central Odense and from there we will drive to the lovely islands Tåsinge and Langeland.

On Tåsinge we will go through Troense, a small and picturesque town on our way to Valdemar Slot, Valdemar Castle, before we visit Landet graveyard where I'll tell you the beautiful yet sad love story about Elvira Madigan and Sixten Sparre.

From the small island Tåsinge we carry on to the bigger island Langeland to explore Tranekær castle in the north (a lovely place to have lunch) and the wild horses' paradise on the southern part of the island.

While we visit Langeland which translates into Long Island you will get to know the stories about the distinctive hatbakker, hathills, King Humble's grave and the cliffs by Ristinge.

We start a little outside Nibe at Agricultura school and Manor Lundbæk. At Lundbæk, we will take our starting point in the story of a Vagabond and cripple the "Tordenkalven". About how life unfolded in this area. It is an exciting story that involves both a person, a writer and a sculpture.

We will guide you on a walk in the town of Nibe that holds stories of the harbour and the fiord. From the harbour we will slowly make our way through the town's narrow streets to get an idea of how the town has developed into what it is now. The church in Nibe has a completely different nave than most other churches. A visit to the police station would be an appropriate place to end in the tour. Here we can also experience how dramatic life in Nibe has been at times.

Have you ever visited a Danish church and thought "where do those murals come from, and why did they make them in the first place?". Or perhaps you've wondered about why the church is furnished the way it is?

All that and a lot more is what I will show you during this guided tour around churches in Western Funen.

During the tour, you will learn about the similarities and differences between Danish churches. The guided tour will take you through the stories of three pulpits around Middelfart parish that all came from the same pulpit in Odense. You will also learn about mural paintings, just like you will learn about the two noble's coffins in Vejlby church, and who excactly they belong to.

The tour includes a visit to three churches in Western Funen; the churches of Gelsted, Rørup and Vejlby which will be the final stop.

But there is also plenty of room for alterations. So if there is something specific you would like to visit or learn about, feel free to let me know!

We need at coach for this tour so I can guide between the visits to the churches.

The tour focusing on food and the good stories is a guided bus tour starting in Vejle, from where we drive towards Jelling. We can of course start somewhere else according to your choice.

We visit a traditional old grocery store which is now also a museum. If you are into nostalgia, be sure to make a few purchases at the counter. It's hard not to.

We carry on to the beautiful Nørup Church, an old medieval church restored to its present day's unique look with a Russian style onion dome, which is very unusual for a Danish church.

From Nørup church we go to the UNESCO World Heritage site at Jelling. See the large runic stone where king Harald Bluetooth in the year 965 claimed that he made the Danes Christian. The runic stone is said to hold the birth certificate of Denmark as a nation.

We end our morning with a delicious Viking lunch in one of Jelling's nice cafes, known for its locally produced, high quality food and drink. We might be able to listen a story by the proprietor while having lunch. 

After lunch you will have time to enjoy the historic experience centre Kongernes Jelling, Royal Jelling, before we head back to Vejle.
