Ghettos arise, ghettos exist, ghettos perish
Visit Odense in a different way. We visit and hear about the ghettos of the city – anything from Vollsmose to the ghetto of the wealthy at Langelinie. About the old working areas in Bolbro and the development in the western part of town. About the small “secret” and incredibly beautiful areas Gerthasminde, Dæhnfeldts Villa town, and the housing of the previous glassworks in the city centre, also ghettos which barely any has ever heard of. If interested, it is possible to heave lunch in a café or restaurant in town.

Odense, New Districts at the Harbour
City walk in the interesting harbour district of Odense – splendid development. I have been involved in the planning from the outset, and now you can learn about the interesting stories.
The new district at the harbour in Odense is a lovely mixture of owner-occupied flats and rented flats. Furthermore, there are a lot of new company domiciles and old company buildings that have existed here for many decades. Some of the buildings you can admire is the old tollbooth and the Northatlantic House, Nordatlantens Hus which also holds a wellrenowned restaurant.
The challenge is to make these different building types and activities coexist in harmony and beauty. This is about the interplay of living, working and moving people and goods through an area in a way that maximizes Quality of Life for all. Let me tell my story, i.e. partly seen from the viewpoint of the communal housing societies.

Port of Odense – the extended tour from industrial past to modern present
Since the beginning of the 00s, the Port of Odense has undergone a monumental change. Get the whole story told by a guide who has seen it all while it has all been going on.
On the tour you get the big overview and get behind scenes and hear some of the hidden anecdotes – and it's all put into context of the greater story about the wild journey that Odense as a city has been through since the turn of the millennium.
With this extended city walk on and around the harbor over the course of 2.5 hours, the story unfolds completely – we also experience a walk along a part of the canal and cross the Odin’s Bridge, which is Northern Europe's largest swing bridge. Good walking skills are required.

Medieval Monasteries of Odense
The monasteries played a major role in the Middle Ages – both in the life of the church and in people's daily life. The monasteries were religious, cultural and financial centres: here medical and agricultural "research" was carried out. The monasteries were the hospitals of that time.
In modern literature, writers like Umberto Eco, "The Name of the Rose", filmed with Sean Connery in the leading part and Jan Guillou's the Arn trilogy have described life in the monasteries.
In the Middle Ages Odense was home to four monasteries and two convents. Most of the buildings do not exist any longer, but three of the monasteries exist as much renovated buildings with other functions for example the monastery of the Order of the Knights of St. John, later the royal castle in Odense and today the host of parts of the local municipal administration. These buildings will form the starting point of my story about the significance of the monasteries and convents in medieval Odense.

During a little over 100 years Odense has gradually grown from being a large town into a big city, with everything that comes along. At the same time, Odense has managed to maintain a distinctive character as an open, green and airy city and you can still see why Odense for many years has had a reputation for being a town with mostly villas. For many years the river Odense Å formed the southern boundary of the city, but today Odense Å is part of central and recreational, green Odense. There are lovely walks along the river through the parks and you can follow the river all the way to Fruens Bøge and Odense Zoo. From there you can choose to either stroll back or sail back with the river boat, Odense Åfart. If you want a guided tour on the river, no problem. We can do that as well.
Odense has a number of exciting museums such as Hans Christian Andersen's House, Hans Christian Andersen's Childhood Home, the Railway Museum and the Tidens Samling - Danish costume and interior through decades. All the museums are worth a visit. Also the open-air museum the Funen Village, Den Fynske Landsby, the museum Møntergården and also Odense Cathedral, where you can see the bones of Canute the Saint in the crypt below the cathedral.
